Avalonia's Foundation Litter |
Much loved pets This Page is dedicated to those wonderful animals who enrich all our lives, and to their owners who themselves are wonderful people to get to know. Here we will introduce you to just a few of the placements that Avalonia is pleased and proud to have playe d a role in bringing together. We hope that you gain at least a little of the pleasure that it has brought us to see how happy these unions have become.

Sept. 28, 2002 We were recently struck by several queries from people who visited our website and then wrote to say they wanted to know if we also placed our whippets in PET homes. We realized then that the amount of genealogical information we provide about our litters, and the amount of show news we report, might be a bit offsetting for some people. The reality is, we provide pedigree information first of all because we wish to illustrate the care we put into breeding whippets from established, problem free bloodlines, and second of all, because if we didn’t provide this information we would forever be making up pedigrees to mail or e-mail to people who ask us all the time for this information. The reality is, the majority – the vast majority – of our puppies go to homes where they will never see the inside of a show ring, and we couldn’t be happier. These are dogs owned by people who have been captivated by the unique qualities and personalities of the whippet breed, who have carefully researched many breeds in their search for a lifelong pet and companion, then decided that a whippet is precisely the dog that fits their wishes and needs. We feel privileged to share these wonderful dogs with people who have made the decision that their lives will not be complete without one (or two) whippets which they proceed then to adore for those unique traits that have drawn us all to whippets in the first place. In terms of our own dogs – those resident with us at Avalonia – all these too are much loved housepets. While we certainly show the dogs that are part of our breeding program on the basis that championship titles may be one indicator of a dog’s quality (we do not agree this is necessarily true… there are many better measures of a dog’s quality, but these are difficult to convey if you are not able to see the dog in the flesh and assess it in a hands-on manner) we have never campaigned any of our dogs, even outstanding specimens such as Edie, preferring to complete their titles then keep them at home where they may live the lives dogs most enjoy – dogs being dogs.
The three pictures reproduced here feature just a few of our dogs who live their lives as much loved pets.
Jake (Avalonia Iceman) shares his life with Bob, pictured here with him, and his wife Elaine, in Mallorytown, Ontario. You can just see the love between dog and owner in this picture can’t you?
The Garden Girls are April (Avalonia Gby Wisteria) and Olivia (Cdn.Ch. Glastonbury Winged Victory) owned by John and Danny (aka the Hairboyz), who live in Ottawa, Ont. Their life seems to be a constant round of garden parties and fetes hosted by their indulgent owners.
The two dogs sharing the couch with the Munchkin (also known as Morgan, who is step-daughter of our friend David) are Nenya (Avalonia Gby Glenmorangie) and Loki (Avalonia Wood Chip).
It’s a dogs life, but obviously at some time you DO have to get up and so Sly, also known as Avalonia Black Currant, son of Ch. Nevedith Local Lancer and Glastonbury Victoria Regina, reluctantly gets up to join his owner, John Fisher, of Indiana, USA, get through the day ahead!
Spencer is one of our Lord of the Rings littermates, and if your registered name were Avalonia Bilbo Baggins and you were as handsome as this guy, you too would appreciate a nice call name like Spencer! Spencer will be a year in November 2002, but for now this delightfully over-indulged dog is still a puppy bringing joy to the hearts of his doting owners, Natalie and Dan.
There is absolutely nothing conventional about Rillie, or for that matter his owner Kathy Beaupre, so why should it come as any surprise that Rillie, son of Avalonia Wotta Jesta, should be the lead dog in a very unconventional sled dog team (seen here is a summer training run on wheels… wait for the winter shots!!), or that he should be the first whippet Registered Therapy Dog in Ottawa where he lives? We can hardly wait to find out what Kathy has planned next!
Flair is owned by our very good friend Patricia St-Germain who really should be getting agent fees for finding wonderful homes for Avalonia dogs amongst her wide circle of friends. It is no surprise therefore that Flair’s best friends are the Garden Girls, seen above, since John and Danny are Patricia’s friends too. Together they (they being the three dogs), enjoy outings, birthday parties (where they dogs get the steaks and the humans get the hot dogs) and any other celebration their owners can come up with. Flair – Glastonbury Carolina – is litter sister of Cdn. Chs. Glastonbury Alabama, and Glastonbury Louisiana.
