| Avalonia Kennels in Winter |
NEWS NEWS NEWS - (21 November 2011) It REALLY is time for an Avalonia update! If you think you read this headline before you did... in October 2010 when we promised to keep our website more up to date in 2011 than we did in 2010. So much for good intentions, but trips outside the country in January -- to Finland, Belgium, and the Netherlands, to Florida in May, to Tennessee in June, and to England in September/October 2011 left little time, it seemed, for bringing folks up to date on what has been going on at Avalonia whippets in 2011. So here goes! New litter: We are thrilled to report there will be a 2011 litter at Avalonia -- due the second week of December. Dam of the litter is Avalonia Ageless Beauty (Emma), a fawn brindle and white female who was born here on 27 January 2010, sired by the fabulous Multi Ch. Boxing Helena’s Epos Ena (Justin) out of Cdn. & Multi Ch. in Europe (10 titles in total) Boxing Helena’s Evasosweet (call name Jen). Sire of the litter is Cdn.Ch. Avalonia Reckless Rogue, the white and fawn son of Fin.Swed.Cdn.Ch. Scheiks Ardbeg Avalonia x Eng.Cdn.Ch. Nevedith Ceefa Ceely. Rogue's sire Erik, was bred by Jarmo Vuorinen of Finland 13 years ago now, using Cdn.Fin.Nor.World Ch. Avalonia Wheatfield Waving as sire. Rogue’s dam is the incomparable Eng.Cdn. Ch. Nevedith Ceefa Ceely and he is the pup in Ceely litters who most resembles both her, and her illustrious sire, Eng. Aust.NZ Ch. Nevedith Rare Rogue. This will be Rogue's second litter, bred after seeing the results of his first litter which was born in October 2010. Stay tuned -- we promise -- for puppy updates in December when the litter is born. Where are they now?? Pups from our 2010 litters are now found in five countries, counting Canada. Avalonia Almost An Angel (Iza), from the 27 January litter, and who is owned by Maggie Wojciechowski, now lives in Poland with her Mum and Dad. Avalonia Roch At Boxing Helena (Roch), born on 24 October 2010 moved to Belgium in late January 2011 where he lives with his owner Bart Scheerens. Roch has already won two CACs and now must wait till he is over two to complete the qualifications for his first championship title. Avalonia BryanAdams at Scheiks travelled with his litter brother and mother to Europe in January 2011 and flew on up to Finland where he now lives with his owner Jarmo Vuorinen of Scheiks whippets there. He too holds two CACs and is now waiting for his second birthday to qualify for his Finnish title. Avalonia Lightfoot at Javelin moved to the Catskill Mountains in southern New York state to live with Linda Goldstein, her afghans and whippets. The rest of the pups remain in Canada in wonderful homes we were delighted to find much closer to us so we can seem them once in a while. Two new Canadian champions: We were fairly inactive in the show ring this year but did manage to complete the titles on two new Canadian champions. First to complete her title was Ch. Dumond Godiva, a very pretty and flashy black and white bitch born on 4 November 2009 who came to Canada in mid 2010. Godiva was sired by American bred Dumond Ernest Hemmingway out of Dumond Dancing Queen and she carries Avalonia breeding on both the top and bottom of her pedigree, along with carrying two of the black lines of Sporting Fields. Godiva was in and out of the show ring before we had time to think -- quickly amassing a series of 3 point Best of Winners wins in a couple of weeks of showing before she was retired to enjoy summer 2011 at home. Avalonia Kelly Jay Fordham a handsome red fawn with white trim, from the October 2010 litter sired by Ch. Avalonia Reckless Rogue x Multi Ch. Boxing Helena's Evasosweet, made his show debut days after he turned 6 months of age, at the Capital Area Sighthound Specialty Show in late July 2011 and in his first show was Reserve Dog, Best Puppy in Group, and he supported Dad to his win as Best Stud dog. He returned to the show ring in September 2011 and in very light showing -- 6 shows, picked up 9 points towards his Canadian title. He handily finished his title at the Ottawa Kennel Club shows in mid November 2011 where he picked up five more points in two shows. Two new whippet girls have joined Avalonia Two trips to Europe to the show rings of Belgium/the Netherlands and Finland in January and to England in September/October 2011 brought with them further new blood additions to Avalonia whippets. First to arrive, in late April 2011, after seeing her as a seven week old pup at the Boxing Helena Kennel in Belgium, was Boxing Helena's Justa Queen. Queen comes by her regal name honestly, not just because her parents are whippet royalty, but because she carries the graces and airs of royalty herself. Sired by the great Eng.Ch. Nevedith Eefa Empra (Eng.Ch. Nevedith Justa Jesta x Eng.Ch. Nuts In May of Nevedith) out of Germ.Belg.Bulg.Mac.Ch. Nevedith Pfa Princess (Eng.Aust.Ch. Nevedith Kfa Kraka x Eng.Ch. Nevedith Lfa Lady Love) Queen has 12 English English champions in her 14-dog four generation pedigree. Queen will make her Canadian show debut in 2012 so stay tuned. Second to make Canada her new home is the irrepressibly delightful, stunningly coloured black brindle bitch Barnesmore Black Rose (Barnesmore Snoop Dog -- a son of Eng.Int.Ir.Port.Ch. Barnesmore Celtic Tiger X Barnesmore Black Dahlia). Rosa is a granddaughter of our long time favourite whippet Ir.Ch. Barnesmore Black Orchid, and carries the regal look of her mum and grandmum as a currently 5 month old bitch. Watch for her too in the show rings of Ontario in 2012. Remembering those who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge Three more much loved dogs departed over the winter/spring of 2010/2011. Cdn.Ch. Avalonia Wispa Jesta , our lovely daughter of the great Eng.Ch. Nevedith Justa Jesta, followed her brother by just a couple of months when she left us just before Christmas 2010. Our oldest boy, Avalonia Gby Jura (Louis) a son of Cdn.Ch. Nevedith Local Lancer x Cdn.Ch. Sporting Fields Perfection, passed away in his sleep 12 days before his 15th birthday. It was an awful shock on what would have been Louis birthday to then lose his son, Avalonia Ghostbuster (Casper) at just thirteen and a half years of age. Louis and Casper were kennel mates for the whole of their lives, and we believe the sudden loss of his father left Casper unprepared to face the future without him. Not ever ill, he too passed on as his sire did, overnight, in his sleep joining their daughter/sister Avalonia Toast Ghost (Gillian) who left us on August 11, 2010. They are all greatly missed. |
