NEWS NEWS NEWS - (29 November 2009) Year end news from Avalonia! It is hard to believe but it is 11 months since our last update, a fact that reflects that this has been a very quiet year for us here at Avalonia as we took a breather from both the show ring and the whelping box! Our time this year was spent enjoying our dogs, many of whom are older dogs we want to lavish affection on while they are still with us. It is hard to believe how much of our kennel is made up of dogs 10 and over, and a bit frightening too! Everyone is healthy – this is a long lived breed and for that we are grateful – but we are conscious of the march of time. In late summer our good friend Nicole Gagnon of Thunder Bay had to say farewell to one of the many dogs we are so proud to have bred. Cdn.Ch. and CDX Glastonbury Louisiana, who was born on 20 June 1993 crossed the Rainbow Bridge and was given peace two months after she celebrated her 16th birthday. In 2009 we grew on one male and two female pups from our October 9, 2008 litter sired by Cdn.Ch. Avalonia Oscar Peterson (Cdn.Ch. Avalonia Wotta Jesta x Cdn.Ch. Avalonia Lagavulin) x Eng.Cdn.Ch. Nevedith Ceefa Ceely (Eng.Aust.NZ.Ch. Nevedith Rare Rogue x Eng.Ch. Nevedith Justa Jenie). Avalonia Maple Leaf Forever – a striking black brindle and white dog whose call name is Thomas – is still with us and maturing into a wonderful dog who will make his show debut in 2010. His two sisters, pictured as pups in the arms of Mick, stayed with us till mid September when all the testing required to export dogs to Australia was finally completed and Avalonia Maple Hues at Xkaliba (Delta) made the trip over to her new owner, Neil Weeks, and Avalonia Wallalea Maple Sugar (Sugar) moved to her new home with George and Lyn Wallace. It is very hard to grow on dogs for such a long time and then let them go, but we know both Delta and Sugar have wonderful homes in Oz, and we look forward to hearing news of them, in the show ring and in the whelping box, in the years ahead. A new Avalonia litter expected at the end of January 2010 We are thrilled to report that there will be a new whippet litter at Avalonia, expected at the end of January 2010. We are deeply indebted to our very good friend Bart Scheerens (Boxing Helena`s Whippets in Belgium) for letting us bring to Canada one of the finest bitches he has ever bred –BIS & Multi Ch. Boxing Helena`s Eva So Sweet – call name Jenneke. Jen brings a new outcross line to Avalonia along with the Nevedith lines we have relied on as the basis of our breeding program over the past 25 years. Sired by Spinneyhill All That Jazz at Hammonds (Eng.Ch. Barnesmore Dream Weaver at Savuka X Spinneyhill Summer Wine) and bred by Peter Morgan in the UK, Jen`s dam is Boxing Helena`s Xena who was sired by Dk.Swed.Ch. Nevedith Veefa Vagabond (sire of two dogs already at Avalonia) X Belg.Ch. Nevedith Supa Sassy, the foundation bitch for Boxing Helena`s kennel. In addition to her multiple All breed Best in Show and group wins, Jen holds an astonishing 9 Championship titles in Europe: She is an International, Dutch, Belgian, Croatian, Slovenian, Portuguese, German, German VDH, and Luxembourg Champion, and is, as well a Canine Good Citizen. Jen has been bred this week to a dog with an equally impressive pedigree and record of achievement in the European show ring: SBIS (Nationale d’Elevage French Whippet Club 2009) and Multi Ch. Boxing Helena`s Epos Ena (call name Justin). Justin is a son of Eng.Ch. Nevedith Eefa Empra x Int.Dutch Ch. Boxing Helena`s Art Groupie. He is an International, Belgian, Lithuanian, Slovenian, Estonian, Finnish and Swedish Champion. Jen will make the trip to Canada once an ultrasound confirms she is in whelp. Stay tuned to for more news when Jen arrives, and when this very promising litter is on the ground! |
