Avalonia Boarding Kennel Built in 1997 the Avalonia Boarding Kennel is a modern licensed dog boarding facility serving residents of Ottawa Carleton, North Grenville Township and West Quebec. Located inside Ottawa-Carleton on the River Road, 30 kms south of Ottawa's Macdonald-Cartier International Airport (Macdonald-Cartier airport), Avalonia is located on an 8 acre property a short scenic drive south of the village of Manotick along the Rideau River and is a home away from home for the dogs boarding there. Used and recommended by area veterinarians, and with short and long stay boarding provided, Avalonia is open year round and enjoys a loyal repeat clientele. Avalonia is owner-operated. Climate controlled indoor runs open into 6-foot fenced outdoor runs for individual dogs. An important feature of Avalonia is the large fully fenced outdoor exercise paddocks. Many of Avalonia's clients have large dogs with exercise requirements that cannot be met in a kennel that only provides small in/out runs or that provides walks, but for a separate additional fee. With exercise particularly important for dogs who are boarding for more than a day or two, our exercise paddocks more than meet the needs of active dogs. With 6 foot perimeter fencing these quarter, half and full acre exercise paddocks give even the most active dog a healthy, stimulating outdoor workout. All dogs are circulated through these exercise paddocks 4 to 6 times a day, depending on weather. Avalonia devotes itself solely to the care and exercise of your dog and does not provide grooming services. For the convenience of residents of the Ottawa area who do not have a car or who may find themselves short of the time needed to bring the dog to the kennel, Avalonia provides a pick- up and delivery service for a modest additional fee (usually $10). Our services and fees are as follows: Boarding fee for one dog per day: $12. Boarding for 2 dogs/ day: $20. Boarding rates for 3 or more dogs or for dogs on a long term stay is negotiable with discount rates available for long term boarders. All boarded dogs must provide proof of current vaccinations by the owner’s veterinarian prior to boarding. Although we have never – touch wood – had a case of kennel cough (bordatella), we do maintain current vaccinations for our own dogs against bordatella and highly recommend that dogs being boarded with us enjoy the same protection. Hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Drop off and pick up outside those hours will be by prior mutual agreement. Call us at (613) 826-0251 or email at avaloniawhippets@yahoo.ca to confirm arrangements. To get to Avalonia: Avalonia Kennels is located at 3901 River Road in Osgoode Township, south of Ottawa. From Ottawa there are two easy routes using the new 416 Highway, or taking the scenic River Road route. For residents of West Carleton, Barrhaven, Kanata etc. take the 416 south to the Rideau River Road exit (the exit after Roger Stevens Drive to North Gower and Osgoode). Avalonia Kennels is 3 kms north of this exit on the River Road. Follow the River Road north passing Lanin Lane on the left and the turn off to Heckston on the right, following the road to a sharp dogleg to the left and then a long straightaway with houses located on the river side. As the road proceeds to bend again you will find yourself beside Mapleshore Estates on the left, and the Boundary Road on the right. The Boundary Road marks the south end of the Avalonia Kennels property with the Dalmeny Road some 800 metres north marking the other end of the property. As you pass Boundary Road and put on your right turn signal. The next (and only) driveway on the right is Avalonia Kennels. For residents of Ottawa/Hull/Vanier etc: Take Riverside Drive south to Hunt Club. At Hunt Club Riverside Drive becomes Regional Road 19, also known as the River Road. Your never get off this road until you turn into the Avalonia Kennels drive way. Follow Regional Road 19 south past Hunt Club and the Ottawa International Airport runways which will be on your left. It is important to know that you must ignore all road numbering as the numbering at this point belongs to the City of Gloucester and not to Osgoode Township, where we are located. At this point check your odometer: you will be approximately 30 kms from Avalonia. Enjoy the ride. Along the way you will pass a large new housing development on your left, a smaller built up area south of that, after which you will arrive at an intersection with traffic lights at Regional Road 8 with a turnoff to Manotick. Keep travelling south. The next major intersection has a red flashing light and is located approximately 10 kms south of Manotick. You will see Hurst Marina and an English style pub, The Swan on the Rideau on your right. Signs will direct travellers to Osgoode to the left and Kars to the right. You keep going straight. You are now 7 kms away. Travel south past a second turn off to the left to Osgoode. Opposite this turn is Helen's Place restaurant, which is 3 kms from Avalonia. The road then twists and turns for several kms before straightening out as you pass the Rideau Hill camp on your right (signposted over the entrance). As you pass the camp you will be in a limited sight zone. As you travel down the small hill you will see a road to the left. This is the Dalmeny Road (also signposted as Regional Road 4). Pass it and immediately hit your left turn signal. The only property on the left between Dalmeny Road and the next road to the left, the Boundary Road, is Avalonia Kennels, located at 3901 River Road. For information/booking call: (613) 826-0251. If you get the answering machine please leave a message! There is someone on premises at all times: the answering machine simply means we are out taking care of dogs and briefly unavailable to take your call. |
