- What else to call a bitch with the obvious qualities of Amanda? Named for Debbie Butt’s daughter Amanda, then 8-years old, who
suggested we give this very pretty puppy a really pretty name, Amanda finished her Cdn.Ch. in three shows. This early picture shows why. Amanda quickly became Mick’s favourite whippet in the entire world, a position she occupied in his heart till her untimely death, from cancer, just after her 11th birthday in mid-April 2003.
- Bred to tight Nevedith bloodlines 19-inch Amanda presented Avalonia with 3 litters of superb quality. Two of Amanda’s first litter,
born in October 1997 and sired by Avalonia Gby Jura (Louis, a son of Nevedith Local Lancer) are in Europe – one in Denmark (Avalonia Wholly Ghost (Gracie) owned by Rudi Brandt of Frontrunner’s), and one in Belgium (Avalonia Mostly Ghostly (Lucy), owned by Bart Scheerens of Boxing Helena’s), while Avalonia retained Avalonia Ghostbuster (Casper) and Avalonia Toast Ghost ( Gillian ) for the future.
- Int.Fin.Swed.Dk..Ch. Avalonia Glen Scotia (Muffy), who came from her January 1999 litter sired by Cdn.Ch. Nevedith Local is owned
by Jarmo Vuorinen in Finland , while litter brother, Avalonia Bruichladdich (Hamish) is in Germany with Karola Buchholz. Cdn. Ch. Avalonia Bowmore (Robbie) is co-owned by Avalonia and Susan Brewster of Spicewind, in the USA , and Cdn.Ch. Avalonia Lagavulin (Buffy, herself now dam of two Cdn.Ch’s in her first litter) and Avalonia Laphroaig (Stuart) are both resident at Avalonia with an eye to their future contributions to our breeding program.
- Amanda’s final litter in October 2000 was sired by Avalonia Wotta Jesta ( Nev ), son of Eng.Ch. Nevedith Justa Jesta. The two
bitch puppies from that litter, Avalonia Ice Wine, and Avalonia Ice Dream, are owned by residents of Finland.
- Amanda’s contribution to the Avalonia breeding program can only be compared to that of Cdn.Ch. Nevedith Local Lancer. Both
have brought quality and soundness to our breeding program that is clearly evident in the dogs from both that we have retained here at home, and the dogs bred from them that are now found worldwide. Avalonia owes much to this wonderful American bitch, and to Debbie Butt, who was kind enough to share her with us, and with the world. We miss her terribly.
